PORTRAIT HEADS and BUSTS

A larger-than-life bronze bust of the famous Dutch judo champion and member of the International Olympic Committee, Anton Geesink, is monumentally present (nearly three metres high) near the great man's place of birth in the heart of the old city of Utrecht, by the medieval church of St James (Jacobskerk).

Willem Pijper (1894-1947), composer. His portrait head was commissioned by the city of Utrecht and placed in the lobby of the municipal Concert Hall, Vredenburg. The head depicted here, however, is an imaginative variation inspired by Pijper's automotive hobby.

Not all portraits are intended as monuments. "Portrait of M.L." and "Portrait of B.P." were both commissioned by the sitters' families, and have a place in their private homes.
